Top 5 impactful innings from T20 World Cup 2021

Here is a list of the top 5 batting displays from the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

1. Charith Asalanka 80(49)

Read - Associate players to watch out in future.

Having made his debut in 2021 he has gone all guns blazing in this T20 WC. With not much game experience he went out and expressed himself without much thinking making him one to watch out for in the future.

His knock against Bangladesh was one of my best knocks in the T20 WC. Bangladesh did not have a good tournament but in a Sharjah pitch that assist Bangladesh spinners, he attacked them from word go making others believe that the Sharjah wicket was good to be hit.

2. Jos Buttler 101(60)

When none of the batters had an idea of how to play in the Sharjah wicket it was Jos Buttler who set an example as to how innings need to be split up and played to the conditions. For the majority of the first half of 1st innings, Buttler scored at a strike rate of less than 100.

In the 2nd part which was crucial, he went all guns blazing scoring at an SR of 300 targeting the correct bowlers. For a batter to score runs consistently he needs to look at which bowler to attack. With Sharjah wicket assisting spin he played off Hasaranga and Theekshana without much fuss instead targeted the fast bowlers which made him successful.

3. Stoinis and Wade.

Here I would like to mention the contribution of both the batters equally. Many would-be or would have disagreed with Stoinis but the reason I chose him is because of the helping hand he played holding on to one end. Everyone only praises the players who have got high SR but the innings in which Stoinis was also equally instrumental in Australia winning the SF is what I feel.

4. James Neesham 29(11)

He made a mark in the WC when it was needed the most. When NZ needed 57(24) they could not look at others apart from Neesham whose primary role was to finish the innings and bowl a few handy overs when needed. But he has proved to be more than handy and has made a strong mark.

As I had mentioned earlier targetting the correct bowler is what makes the batter smart and Neesham did exactly the same targetting Jordan of the 16th over setting up the momentum for the next 3 overs. This momentum shift helped him target England's best bowler Adil Rashid as well but with much damage done eventually got out.

5. Mitchell Marsh 77(50)

This innings easily stands out from all other performances with Australia winning the T20 WC 2021. One thing that worked in his favor was that apart from Boult not a single bowler bowled well and to the situation. As always winning the toss has won matches but we cannot take credits out of Marsh his blistering innings.

Ish Sodhi and Santner who had bowled tidy spells before the finals did not bowl tight length making him free his arms and score runs freely.
