Is Women's IPL on it's way?

Indian women's team have made their presence made in patches starting way back since 2005. Indian made the finals in 2005 but were not consistent enough. Again in 2017 almost won the World Cup which was one of the best tournaments in history. In 2020 India reached the finals of the T20 World Cup with record 87000 people against Aussies. By looking at these it is clear that they have the talent but not consistency.

Women's IPL.

IPL was called on during the inaugural 2007 World Cup in SA. From there we have seen the success of IPL with exposure and the quality of players it has produced. Then why not an IPL for women after 2020 success? Many have asked this question but no response yet.

But why exactly do we need an IPL for women?

Shafali, Cricket

If we look at the depth the Australian team has it can be attributed to WBBL. With 6 seasons held they have the best quality and talent across all nations. Next, we have The Hundred in England which slowly is gaining momentum. All the major ICC tournaments are won by these two teams all because of their depth and quality.

This shall itself be enough for BCCI to start an IPL where 29 states are playing domestic teams. Many might argue not many are competitive then start with a 5 or 6 team tournament which must be decent enough.

Playing in a pressure situation is what it takes to make a champion which the Indian team lacks. This was visible in the recently held ODI series in Australia. In response, the way Australians handled the situation was better than the Indians.

Indians have got talent with the likes of Shafali, Jemimah, Yasthika, and Richa without any competitive tournament. Now if we have an IPL then see how many more can they produce.
