A bright start to 2022 season for Indian Tennis ahead of Australian Open

Indian tennis is off to a great start in 2022 with many showing improved performances compared to the 2021 season. Apart from Ankita Raina and Karman Thandi, not many were at their best with no challenger series and injury concerns to many. Prajnesh Gunneswaran who last year ended as India's no1 ranked singles player at 130s is now ranked 218. The same is the case with Sumit Nagal (222) was ranked in the mid 140s last year. With Indias two primary singles players not performing 2021 wasn't a memorable year for the Indian fans.

Ramkumar Ramanathan/ Rohan Bopanna.

The duo has recently won the Adelaide ATP 250 event beating the no1 seed of Ivan Dodig and Melo. This has been the best start to the season winning the first tournament with ease against the mighty opponents. This pair now needs to play regularly for them to understand better which in turn will also be good for the Davis Cup match against Denmark.

Ramkumar is Indias no1 ranked singles player has improved a bit in his ranking. His primary weapon is the service that he needs to hold in the coming matches.

Arjun Khade has recently won his 2nd ATP Challenger trophy in Forli. Pairing with Bortolloti seeded number 3 went on to reach the final comprehensively and win the title.

Sasikumar Mukund too started the season on a bright note reaching the men's singles finals at Forli ATP challenger. Last year like many he was ranked higher in the high 200s but his ranking fell drastically to the 400s.

Sania Mirza reached the SFs of the WTA Adelaide International upsetting the 2nd seeded Dabrowski and Olmos. Having made a good run she Sania failed to capitalize and lost in the SF.

With the Australian Open round, the corner many Indians have had a good pre-season with few tournaments still left. In the men's singles at least one of them would reach the main draw. In the women's section with Ankita Raina coming back from covid not much should be expected of her but she will give a fight.

After the Australian Open in February, the much-awaited ATP Pune Open 250 would start where the maximum number of Indians would like to use this and gain experience.
