Ashes : Australia dominate but "all is not over" for England

Australia is off to a great start winning the 1st test comprehensively by 9 wickets at the Gabba which has been their fortress for the past 33 years. England on the other hand was very poor with the bat in the 1st innings which has cost them the loss. Had they shown a bit more application there could have been more life in the match. But all is not yet over as many think for England.

Areas where England went wrong.

Ashes

Either Broad or Anderson should have played the 1st test. There was a lot of inexperience in the England bowling with Stokes bowling after a long time and Woakes not too a regular member in the tests. Stokes in particular had bowled 14 no balls out of which only 2 were detected by the umpires.

What England should have done is that made Anderson play the 1st 2 tests and Broad play 2nd and the 3rd test. Then finally making both of them play the final test in Hobart would have the ideal choice considering the workload. Starting a series on a brighter note gives a lot of confidence to any team and England here I feel missed the trick.

The reason I said for Anderson and Broad and Anderson to play the 2nd and 5th test together is that both are pink ball matches. With both bowling well with pink balls, England should fancy winning both the pink ball tests by using their experience rather than making them rest again. Anderson bagged a 5fer in the last pink ball test in Adelaide.

In batting, Buttler was aggressive from start but he must hold himself and not get over aggressive and lose his wicket which was the case in both innings. He looked set for big scores but could not capitalize on the starts he got. So he needs to convert them to 50s and 100s.

Changes for the 2nd test.

England.

Broad and Anderson in for Woakes and Wood.

Australia.

Same playing XI except for injuries to Hazlewood and Warner.

If Hazlewood is not fit to play I would like Michael Neser to make it to playing XI. He has been the workhorse for Queensland and Australia A teams for a long time and should be included. In the recently held test against England Lions he bagged 5 wickets in the 1st innings making his selection much stronger.
