Rahul Dravid : "A coach every player looks forward to"

Rahul Dravid has been appointed the Indian coach until the 2023 World Cup. He is considered as one of the greats this game has produced as a player and now as a coach as well. With 2 WCs and WTC in 2 years, Dravid would at least want to lift any one of those trophies that India has been eagerly waiting for past 5 years.

Tasks going ahead.

Having led the junior U19 Indian team to larger success this should not be a huge task for Dravid but a major issue that he needs to look into is the knockout failure India has had going into all the major ICC tournaments. Leaving this T20 WC aside India has gone on to reach SFs of all major ICC events eventually losing all of them.

Winning an ICC trophy will be a top priority for any coach but at the same time managing players and giving them suitable roles is where a coach stands out. This is the correct time for Dravid to make players get on to their roles without any hiccups.

India for a long has been on a search for fast bowling all-rounder. They had tried out Shivam Dube, Vijay Shankar in the absence of Hardik Pandya but none of them could contribute to their potential. This is a place where teams like England hold an edge over India where they have the likes of Mooen with spin bowling all-rounder and Stokes a fast bowling all rounder.

With Venkatesh Iyer making it into the NZ series he should be given enough chances to prove himself both as a finisher and also as a bowler who can bowl 2 quality bowlers.

Off late Indians have not been great palying spin which has been a concern. With Dravid in he will definitely look imto this as he was considered a greatest player of spin.

Tests.

With the likes of both Pujara and Rahane not looking in great form, they both need to have a backup so that there is healthy competition among players to challenge themselves. Rahane has not had a good 2021 season with the bat there needs to be a backup player. Selectors have picked Shreyas Iyer as a backup but he has not played enough Ranji games for the past 3 years.

Player Management.

Bio bubble fatigue will be the main issue going ahead for a maximum of 2 years until Dravid's tenure ends. The likes of Kohli, Rohit, KL Rahul, and Jadeja need to rotate regularly as they do not have enough time to rest between series for next year. India plays cricket continuously going ahead and with IPL extended the time gap too decreases.

England has managed to do this and has managed to rotate players across all formats. So Dravid too would want players to play at crucial junctures.
