India has won both their practice matches with good margins against Australia and England in WT20 at UAE. The main aim of these practice matches was to sort out the playing XI for the Super 12.
Have team India got their playing combination sorted?
India is going to play their first T20 after a gap of around 6 months but this should not deter them from winning.
Area of concern.
Depending on the pitch may be the playing XI might be decided but also how many spinners and fast bowlers would be playing. It is the same stadium where the IPL finals were played. The pitch seemed to assist both the spinners and pacers.
It would be Bumrah and Shami along with Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy if the performance of practice matches are taken into consideration with Jadeja filling up the 5th bowling option. This would be very risky not having the 6th bowing option.
Kohli was bowling against Australia where he got the bowl to swing but the situation and the intensity of the match would be less compared to the Super 12 matches. Apart from Virat, Rohit too can have a role with the ball and had taken a hat trick at IPL but years ago. These are the only options left for the 6th bowler if Pandya is not fit to bowl.
Shami would be preferred ahead of Bhuvneshwar as the former has been good enough but the death overs is the area where India can go for many. Apart from Bumrah, no one has done well in this phase.
Batting looks settled.
With SKY too getting back to his best there doesn't seem to be much difference in this department. Ishan Kishan is slated into the squad only for the opening slot and keeping. Kishan is a good player of pace bowling but tends to struggle against spinners in the middle phase which was seen in IPL 2021.
So even though the middle order collapses Kishan will not be making it as he would not be suiting well for the role. The reason I say this is Kohli will the anchor role and he too has been struggling in the middle phases against spin.
With Kishan too coming in it would make life easy for the opposition to bowl at them.Instead, make SKY to play.India has won both their practice matches with good margins against Australia and England in WT20 at UAE.
