After a year's hiatus, we are again going to witness one of the best leagues in India - The Pro Kabaddi League. For the past 7 seasons, the league's intensity has never fallen making this edition even stronger with no action for the past 1 year.
This year teams were allowed to retain certain players and release too. Here both the player and the management must combine and take a decision. If neither of them is happy with being retained then the player automatically goes into the auction pool. This was the case with Pardeep Narwal as he wanted his name to go under the hammer.
Let's take a look at each team with short insights.
Tamil Talaivas
Having never entered the playoffs since their inception in season 5 this was the right time for them to again rethink and form a new formidable team. With the likes of Rahul, Thakur, and Manjeet Chillar making way this time fans were optimistic of the whole new squad. As was the case Talaivas roped in youngsters such as Prapanjan and Manjeeth in the raiding.
Manjeet has performed well in the Senior National Championship for the past 2 seasons making him a hot buy going for 92 lakhs. In defense, only Surjeeth is experienced and the rest are all young. The players retained were defenders and the management is banking heavily on them.
This team might not enter the playoffs straight away but looks like a team for the future.
Dorabji Tata - The Man behind Indian Olympics
Gujarat Fortune Giants.
Going into the auction they only retained defenders. So many were hoping they would now go in for Raiders. This was not the case as they still went on for defenders with the likes of Pahal making the squad. The only experienced raider here looks Mahendra Ganesh Rajput who was considered a do or die specialist before. This team is banking fully on defenders which looks like a whole new strategy but can never write them off.
Bengaluru Bulls
They once again look like an all-around team with the likes of Pawan Shehrawat and Chandran Ranjith in raiding. They retained the 2 best defenders from the previous seasons. Like other teams, all the bases of the team look covered but the players need to be at their best.
UP Yoddhas
Pardeep Narwal after an intense battle was sold to UP for 1.65crs the highest so far in the history of PKL. The Dubki King along with Shrikanth Jadhav looks strong in raiding. They have season 7 2nd best defender Sumit along with the 3rd best defender. Overall all the departments in general looks sorted. Having made it to the playoffs previously they look like a formidable contender for the title on paper.
