Let's be frank. How many of us would have known of Aditi Ashok before Tokyo Olympics? Not many. But now she is known almost to 1.3billion people across India by finishing 4th in Tokyo. Leave alone India whole world is mesmerized by her effort at Tokyo. But Why?
She was known as a young prodigy at Rio by becoming the youngest golfer since then has made greater leaps. She is presently ranked 200 but was closely fighting it out with the world no1 Korda. I have never seen such a lowly ranked player fighting with the world best such as her dominance. The last one to achieve that feat was Leander Paes where he was ranked 126 and won a bronze medal.
What this has done is that many Indians have got to learn about a new sport that no one would have been interested in.
Achievements.
1.2016 Hero Women's Indian Open winner.
2.1st LPGA player from India.
3.Youngest Olympian to take part in golf at Rio.
4.Ranked 200 finished 4th at Tokyo which not many would have expected.
The number of holes in a golf course changes from course to course but at Tokyo, it was an 18 hole course spread across 4 rounds totalling 72 holes.
The player with the least number of shots to complete 72 holes is declared the winner.
Each hole is given a par score i.e number of shots required to score the hole.
Par - If a hole is given a par score of 5 meaning 5 shots to score a hole then it is called par.
Bogey - If a player takes one shot more than par.
Birdie - If a player takes one shot less than par.
Diksha Dagar another Indian has finished 50th. This being her 1st Olympics will take up experience and put up a good show at Paris 2024.
With this effort, Aditi has put the golf map back in India with many taking up the sport at grassroots and its perception.
